In a nutshell, automatic writing and drawing is a form of mediumship, with the option of tapping into your subconscious, your higher awareness, and the spirit realm to receive insight, guidance, messages, clarity, wisdom and so forth. With consistent daily practice automatic writing and drawing can be a wonderful tool in building resilience and supporting your mental health and emotional wellness. 

  1. Sit down with your pen and paper in a space that's conducive to relaxation. It may be helpful to play soft, relaxing music.
  2. Establish your intention for your automatic writing and drawing session. Is it to tap into your inner wisdom and higher awareness, or is it to connect with Spirit?
  3. Take a few moments to close your eyes and focus on your breathing as the air flows in and out of your body. Do this until you feel centered and relaxed.
  4. When you're ready, put your pen to paper and without censoring or judgment, allow yourself to write and draw anything that comes to mind (it's ok to draw stick figures). If nothing comes to mind right away, begin to doodle and draw lines, shapes, patterns, etc. as this helps to get the energy moving. Listen deeply for words, symbols, feelings, etc. and do your best to describe them through the pen. 

It's amazing what you can learn through this process. Developing this skill can be helpful on many levels, including maintaining a positive outlook on life.
