Basic Meditation

Experts estimate that the human mind has between 25,000 and 70,000 thoughts per day! If this isn't exhausting enough, we have to deal with a constant barrage of brain stimuli, taking a toll on both our emotional and mental health.


With all this stimulation, it's no wonder many people find it challenging to meditate. However, Meditation has many benefits and can add so much value to your life.


Basic Meditation is simple and shouldn't feel complicated.

  • You'll want to start by creating a space in your home where you can feel comfortable, at ease, and safe, and by removing anything you consider clutter.
  • Make this space as inviting as possible by appealing to your senses. You may want to play soft meditation music, infuse the space with essential oils, or set the mood with dim lighting. During the winter months, you may even want a warm blanket on hand to wrap yourself up in. Aside from keeping you warm, this can evoke a feeling of comfort and safety.
  • Now, sitting upright, settle in and make yourself as comfortable as possible. When you're ready, close your eyes and focus on your breath. Follow your breath with your awareness as it flows into your body and back out. Continue this process, and if you're mind wanders, just bring your focus back to your breath.
  • Consistency is the key, especially when beginning this practice. So find a time each day that works for you when you can devote 10-15 minutes to yourself. You can strive for longer periods of time as you get into the habit.

*Please don't be discouraged if it feels challenging the first several times you practice. And remember that just like anything else, it takes practice to get better at it.
